The recognized methodology for security risk assessment in the petroleum and petrochemical industries.
ANSI/API Standard 780 is the recognised method for security risk assessment in the petroleum and petrochemical industries. This program takes participants through the complete methodology, from scoping to reassessment, applied to real facilities.
It is highly interactive, pairing methodology instruction with practical worksheet sessions, sector case studies, and scenario-based exercises.
Participants learn to apply API 780 SRA principles, characterize assets, score threats, analyze vulnerabilities, build a Design Basis Threat, select and cost countermeasures, calculate residual risk, and produce comprehensive SRA reports with recommendations that management can act on and auditors can trace.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Get certified as a Security Risk Assessor
Apply the API 780 methodology end to end, from scoping to reassessment
Define and score the core variables — asset, consequence, threat, attractiveness, vulnerability, likelihood
Characterise assets and rank criticality using consequence severity criteria
Assess adversary capability, motivation and intent, and complete asset–threat pairing
Identify vulnerabilities and build credible attack scenarios
Produce a ranked risk register with traceable justification for every score
Build and defend a Design Basis Threat
Select risk treatment measures to enhance security and minimize threats
